I've shot many weddings at the Mabie House Hotel, and now I'm passing on all that knowledge to you. My goal is to help you have the best experience possible. This guide will show you all the awesome things about this venue and why you should book it for your big day.
Where is Mabie House Hotel?
Mabie House Hotel Wedding venue sits just on the outskirts of Dumfries. The venue is on the large Mabie Forest's doorsteps, making it a beautiful location for a wedding venue. The Hotel looks out over Dumfries and backs onto the forest.
The closest airports to the venue are Glasgow Prestwick and Glasgow International airport. The closest rail connections is in Dumfries. With the venue being so close to the town, getting taxis for transport is straightforward if you don't have a car.
Why choose Mabie House Hotel for your wedding ceremony?
Mabie House Hotel sits on a beautiful piece of land with manicured gardens, a stunning loch and views overlooking the hills.
The venue is a traditional country house hotel set in its own gardens and grounds, with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. It provides a beautiful and peaceful location for weddings and other special events and a cosy and comfortable accommodation for any guest who wants to stay overnight.
How many guests can it hold?
Depending on how the area is set up, the main house can hold anywhere from small intimate weddings all the way up to 90 guests for your sit-down meal. For your evening reception, you can have up to 150 total guests.
The Pavillion space can hold up to 150 guests during the day, with lots of extra room for evening guests.
Spaces inside Lochside Hotel wedding venue.
The country house was built in the 17th Century, full of historic charm, large windows and many different function rooms. There is space for any size wedding. Guests will mingle in the Foya and bar area before returning to the ceremony/function room.
Completed a few years ago, the new Pavillion marquee was purposely created for weddings. The open-plan room keeps all your guests together in one area with an outdoor balcony and windows along the whole side of the venue overlooking the beautiful gardens.
A popular option with a lot of couples is to, weather permitting, have your outdoor ceremony in the lovely gardens in the middle of the Hotel. The gardens sit right alongside the forest, making you feel at one with nature. The ceremony's focal point is in front of the steps down to the lower garden. The garden is only a few meters away from the Hotel and pavilion, making it wheelchair friendly.
Accommodation at the Mabie House Hotel Weddings

The venue is roughly 10 minutes from Dumfries, where you will find many other hotels and plenty of airbnb options in the countryside around the venue.
Best timing for your wedding.
The kind of wedding you picture and your personal preferences will determine the ideal time for a wedding at Mabie House Hotel.
While some couples might want a classic summer wedding, others might favour a smaller-scale winter wedding.
A summer wedding may be the most fantastic choice if you want to enjoy warmer temperatures and more daylight. The stunning gardens and outdoor areas at the Mabie House Hotel are perfect for a summer wedding. There are also a few months of the year when the venue sees a sunset directly over the gardens.
An autumnal or winter wedding may be the best option if you want to enjoy the stunning autumnal colours or the winter landscape blanketed in snow. With the warmth of the fires and the gorgeous decorations, winter weddings can be incredibly cosy, romantic, and small-scale.
Unique Locations for your couple's photos.
My favourite part of weddings is the couple's photos after the ceremony. Knowing the best places to go allows us to spend your time wisely and return you to your guests as quickly as possible. !
The grounds of Mabie House Hotel make it the ideal location for traditional photographs in the manicured lawns.
My favourite option is to go into the forest behind the venue, where you can find many unique locations filled with trees, wildlife and incredible viewpoints if you know where to look.
